Munshi Ahsan Kabir, the lawyer for Jamaat-e-Islami leader and war crime suspect Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujaheed, has accused a war crime tribunal witness of assault on him.

According to the lawyer, he was attacked by prosecution’s witness Jahir Uddin Jalal at Segun Bagicha on Sunday evening.

However, the witness, a freedom fighter better known as ‘Bicchu Jalal’, said this allegation of assault was a conspiracy.

Ahsan Kabir told bdnews24.com, “Jahir Uddin Jalal attacked me at Segun Bagicha with no prior warning. He was cursing at me while he punched and kicked me.”

Ahsan Kabir has been admitted to Kakrail’s Islami Bank Central Hospital.

The doctor at the hospital’s emergency unit said the lawyer had received wounds in his lower abdomen. Ahsan Kabir has been injected to kill the pain but he did not suffer serious injuries, the doctor said.

Jalal told bdnews24.com the whole thing was a hoax.

“The lawyers will present their argument for Mujaheed soon. These allegations are being brought before that as conspiracy.”

Jamaat-e-Islami has condemned the ‘assault’ in a statement.

“This incident proves that the government does not want the trials to be free and fair.”

The party demanded that the ‘attacker’ be arrested and the defence counsel be provided with security.

Ahsan Kabir said he will file a general diary with the Shahbagh police.
