45mm rainfall in Dhaka

Much of Bangladesh, except Rajshahi, experienced light to heavy rain with gusty winds since Thursday morning as cyclone'Mahasen' bore down on the country's coast.

In capital Dhaka, Bangladesh Meteorological Department recorded 45 millimetres of rainfall in six hours from 6:00am.

The cyclone crossed Patuakhali’s Khepupara around 9:00am. 238 millimetres of rainfall were recorded in that area since then – the highest in the country.

In Dhaka, light rainfall inundated some areas causing problems for poor people.

Most areas of Dhaka, Khulna, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions and some areas of Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions might experience temporary gusty winds accompanied by rainfall or thunderstorms because of ‘Mahasen’, Met officials said.

Meanwhile, some areas of Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions might experience heavy to very heavy rainfalls.
Met officials said the squally weather will persist until ‘Mahasen’ passes away. The Chittagong Hill Tracts have been warned about landslides triggered by rains.
