The UN Secretary-General has urged all parties in Bangaldesh to stop violence and express their views peacefully respecting law following the recent wave of violence.

Ban Ki-moon’s spokesperson made the statement in New York on Monday, according to the United Nations website.

The spokesperson said Ban was following the recent violence “with increasing concern and is saddened by the loss of life, including during the events that unfolded in Dhaka throughout Sunday and into Monday”.

He urged political and religious leaders “to engage in constructive dialogue and help defuse the tensions”.
At least 30 people including law-enforcing personnel were killed in Sunday and Monday when an Islamist group Hifazat-e Islam besieged the capital Dhaka and paralysed its business district Motijheel unleashing violence.
