Bangladesh project wins the Bobs

Infolady, a project from Bangladesh won this year's Global Media Forum Award from Deutsche Welle, Germany’s international broadcaster.

The international jury of The Bobs contest said: “Infolady brings life-saving information about health, education and a number of other services to the poorest people in Bangladesh.”

A Deutsche Welle release on Tuesday said Infolady project helps equip women with digital cameras, mobile phones and solar-powered laptops to travel by bike to rural areas and answer questions related to health, agriculture and development.

Chinese author, columnist and blogger Li Chengpeng won the Best Blog award at The Bobs 2013, which awards the best in online activism. Other honors from the international jury for the contest went to projects from Morocco, Togo and an international website.

According to the release, Li Chengpeng is among China's most well-known bloggers, authors and social critics. He is extremely popular among the young people in his country with more than 7 million followers on the Sina Weibo micro-blogging platform.

In the Best Social Activism category, Moroccan youth initiative 475 (www.facebook.com/475LeFilm), which works to promote democracy and human rights in social media, took the jury's award.

The jury awarded the Chinese site FreeWeibo (www.freeweibo.com) in the Best Innovation category. The service offers censorship-free access to the micro-blogging platform SinaWeibo.com, one of China's most used social networks

In the Most Creative and Original category, the jury gave its award to Me & My Shadow project (www.myshadow.org), while the Reporters Without Borders Award went to Fabbikouassi’s Blog (www.fabbikouassi.wordpress.com) from Togo.

In addition to the jury awards, Internet users from around the world cast more than 90,000 votes in an online poll for their favourite finalists in The Bobs. The Best Blog / English award went to Mideast Youth (www.mideastyouth.com), a collection of websites and applications that all amplify voices of dissent in the Middle East.
