Witnesses said the fire fighters took less then 20 minutes to tame the flames after the fire broke out at around 10pm on Sunday.

bdnews24.com Correspondent Ashik Hossain said smoke suddenly started to come out from the tunnel after some clothes of the garment factories housed in the nine-storey commercial building caught fire when rescuers were cutting steel rods to pull out people alive.

He quoted the rescuers as saying that the fire would not stop the salvage efforts.

At around 2:40am, plumes of smoke billowed out of the building which resembled a sandwitch. Fire-fighters were throwing large amounts of water in every direction.

A similar case of fire was happened on Thursday but fire-fighters also responded quickly then.
