Some six hundred workers from capital's Mogbazar, Malibagh and Rampura took position near the office of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) at Hatirjheel around 11:00am, bdnews24.com Correspondent at scene reported.

They were chanting slogans demanding arrest and capital punishment of Rana Plaza owner Sohel Rana and the owners of the five RMG units housed in the building.

We want capital punishment of factory owners and building owner for forcing the workers to work despite cracks surfacing in the building a day before the collapse, Textile Garment Workers Federation General Secretary Tapan Saha said.

Tejgaon division police Deputy Commissioner Biplab Kumar Sarkar said they were trying to quell the situation.

Workers were also demanding that all factories should be closed down for the day, he said.

However, BGMEA President Atiqul Islam told bdnews24.com that no decisions were taken to declare any holiday.

“But, garment owners have been asked to assist the victims of the collapse in all possible ways.”
