At least 91 people were killed and over 800 injured as the multi-storied building caved in on Wednesday morning.

Rescue workers fear the number of casualties might go up further.

Superintendent of Police of Dhaka district Habibur Rahman told reporters in the afternoon that 85 bodies were recovered from the debris of the building.

Dhaka’s Additional Deputy Commissioners Iftekhar Hossain and Md Zillur Rahman Chowdhury started handing over the bodies from Enam Medical College in Savar to their relatives after 3pm after confirmation of their identities.

Chowdhury told bdnews24.com: “As the accident occurred in the morning, the relatives of the victims are asking for handover of the bodies immediately.”

He said that the process of returning the bodies was going on and the Enam Medical College and Hospital was issuing certificates.

The family of each victim is being given Tk 20,000 as burial cost.
