Two ‘dacoits’ were killed in what police said was a 'gunbattle' early on Saturday in Doati area of Chandpur’s Kachua.

Choto Jamal, 35, and Mohammad Shah Paran, 32, who were killed were dacoits, Kachua Police Station Officer in-Charge Mohammad Alamgir Hossain told bdnews24.com.

The two, who hail from Meghdair of Kachua, stand accused in seven cases of robbery and burglary, he said.

A group of dacoits were planning to raid the farm of Mostafa Master in Doati around 4:00am, Alamgir Hossain said. But they ran into a patrol of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-11 unit.

“RAB chased the dacoits… they (dacoits) opened fire… RAB fired back in retaliation.”

The other dacoits fled leaving behind the two bodies. The OC said three firearms, two long knives and a loaded magazine were recovered from the scene of the 'encounter'.
