Clashes in Chittagong

Clashes broke out in port city of Chittagong between Jamaat-Shibir and law keepers after Jamaat leader Delwar Hossain Sayedee's death sentence on Thursday.

Atleast 20 Shibir activists were nabbed from New Market intersection and adjacent areas after the incident, said Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy-Commissioner Mostaque Ahmed.

Jamaat-Shibir activists brought out a procession from New Market intersection in the city raising slogans against the verdict, reported bdnews24.com Chittagong Correspondent.

Clashes broke out when police intervened. Bangladesh Chhatra League activists from nearby Metropolitan Awami League office joined the police to challenge the Jamaat-Shibir activists, who took shelter in nearby markets but continued stone-pelting.

Locals retaliated, lynching a Shibir supporter . Kotwali Police Station Inspector Swadip Kumar Das said raids have started on the markets to nab the trouble-makers.

Police and Jamaat men clash in Satkania

Meanwhile, police clashed with activists of Jamaat-e-Islami at Chittagong’s Satkania after Sayadee's death sentence on Thursday.

On hearing of Sayadee's verdict, Jamaat supporters attacked police at Saatkania's Kerani Haat .

The Jamaat activists blocked the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazaar road stopping traffic, witnesses say. Police fired rubber bullets to bring the situation under control.
