Suman's friends have been receiving mails from his mail account about his being in Madrid for a cousin's surgery and in desperate need for money.

The singer who represents Kolkata's Jadavpur constituency in the Indian parliament is now in Delhi attending its budget session.

"Let me return to Kolkata after the Budget is over on 28th February. I will lodge a complaint with the cyber crimes cell of Kolkata police," Suman told mediapersons in Delhi.

But the singer-politician, who has been with Mamata Banerji's Trinamool Congress but remains deeply critical of the West Bengal chief minister, does not think "anyone in India has hacked my mail."

Suman has composed four songs for the Shahbagh protestors so far and lend total support to the movement.

"I think the Jamaat is upset with me for that and they have hacked my mail and send out messages to embarass me," Suman said.

He said he needs to be 'careful' after this incident, but did not spell out whether he entertains security worries.

The mail send from his mail account clearly read that the MP is in Madrid and needs Euro 2,500 to make "necessary arrangement" for his cousin's surgery.

It said: "I really did not want to disturb you with this but I had no one else to turn to. I'm in Madrid, Spain to see my cousin (Natalie) who is a missionary there; she's suffering from a critical uterine fibroid and must undergo a hysterectomy surgery to save her life... I need a loan of Euro 2,500 to make the necessary arrangement. If you can help, please let me know to provide you with the details to get the money to me. I will check my e-mail every 30 minutes for your reply."

The singer said he has received scores of calls over the past 24 hours from friends who were concerned and wanted to help, only to be told that he was in Delhi attending parliament and not in Madrid.
