Bogra district Jamaat chief Alamgir Hossain led the procession from the town’s Mohammad Ali Hospital area under the banner of Sammilito Olama-Mashayekh Parishad.

Police escorted the procession, the eye-witnesses said.

However, the Investigation Officer of the case Sub-Inspector Lal Mia said that they were trying to arrest the Jamaat leader.

Several police officials told bdnews24.com that Hossain was missing.

On Friday, the marauding Jamaat-Shibir activists went on the rampage after the Juma prayers.

They vandalised the replica of Shahbagh mass protest venue, the 'Ganajagaran Mancha' at Zero Point Saatmatha in the town, burnt and tore down the national flag, banner of the freedom fighters, and the portrait of ‘Shaheed Janani’ Jahanara Imam.

The organisers of the Mancha alleged that Hossain had led the attack.

Bogra Sadar Police Station Sub-Inspector Abdur Razzak filed a case with the accusing Hossain and some 1,500 others over the incident.

Officer-In-Charge Syed Shahid Alam said that they would arrest Hossain immediately on seeing him, but the Jamaat leader was missing.

“I’m not aware of whether Alamgir was in the procession,” he said.

Investigation Officer Lal Mia said: “I wasn’t there during the procession. I was assigned to another task. But we’re trying to arrest him.”

Masudur Rahman, coordinator of Bogra district Projanma Chattar and President of the District Sector Commanders’ Forum, told bdnews24.com: “We know that the main accused and many of those accused in the vandalism of the Prajanma Chattar’ were in the procession. But they weren’t arrested.”
