9 Shibir activists nabbed

Police nabbed nine Islami Chhatra Shibir activists including its unit president for Dhaka Metropolitan(South) from Keraniganj over allegations of trying to foment trouble.

Keraniganj Police raided a house in Charail area past Saturday midnight on receiving 'definite information' from Motijheel Police, said Keraniganj Police Station Officer in-Charge Mayeen Uddin.

He said the nine arrested Shibir supporters , that include its Dhaka Metropolitan south president Mostaque Ahmed, have been sent to Motijheel Police Station.

Mayeen Uddin said that though the three-storied house seemed like abandoned, the Shibir activists have been there for a while. “They used a small backdoor to get in and out of the house as the main door was always locked.”
The OC could not provide names for those arrested, but said two (apart from Mostaque) of them were of top level activists of Keraniganj Shibir unit.
Jamaat-e-Islami and its student affiliate Shibir have been attacking the police during their movement for abolition of war crimes trials and release of their top leaders from jail.
One Agrani Bank employee was burnt to death in a bus that was set on fire by Shibir supporters during a shutdown. Four policemen were also injured in their latest attacks in Dhaka.
