BGB kills 2 Indians

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and India's Border Security Force (BSF) exchanged fire for half an hour near Govindapur Pathorkali frontier of Haripur upazila in Thakurganj district on Monday morning.

The BGB personnel shot dead two Indian nationals in the border area, identified as Farid Ahmed, 38, and Monir Hossain, 28.

The BSF took away the bodies after the firing stopped.

BGB Major Ahmed Hossain told bdnews24.com that the BGB and BSF held a flag meeting near Pillar No. 346 on the bank of the Kulik River around 3:50pm.

Quoting the locals, he said that a group of Indian smugglers opened fire on a BGB patrol team around 10am prompting the BGB men to retaliate. Two smugglers were killed in the gunfight.

Later around 10:30am, the BSF took position in the border area within Indian territory and fired at the BGB.

The firing stopped around 11am.
