Eid in 30 Chandpur villages Sunday

Eid and other religious functions are usually celebrated in these villages every year according to Saudi calendar.

Dhaka, Aug 18 (bdnews24.com) – Muslims in some 30 villages of Chandpur district will celebrate the Eid-ul-Fitr on Sunday in line with the sighting of the moon in Saudi Arabia, the birthplace of Prophet Muhammad.
Pir (spiritual leader) Maulana Abu Jofar Mohammad Abdul Hye of Sadra village of the district's Hajiganj Upazila told bdnews24.com that the muslims of some 30 villages of five upazilas in the district celebrate Eid and other religious functions since many years ago in conformity with Saudi Arabia.
They also started Ramadan fasting a day before the official start in Bangladesh.
"Our 30th day of fasting is being completed on Saturday. Since the crescent moon which marks the new lunar month of Shawal was not sighted elsewhere in the Arab world on Friday, the Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated here on Sunday."
The villages where Eid-ul Fitr prayers will be held include Sadra, Someshpur, Olipur, Balakhal, Monirhar, Bholacho, Pratappur and Bashara under Hajiganj upazila; Mulpara, Badarpur, Aitparha, Uvarampur, Uttali, Munshirhat, Surangachar, Baluthuba,Kaitparha, Noorpur, Sachonmegh, Sholla, Hansa and Gobinapur under Faridganj upazila; Dashani, Mohanpur and Panchani under Matlab upazila; and some other villages under Shahrasti and Kachua upazilas.
Maulana Abu Jofar said that all preparations are almost completed for holding the Eid congregations in the villages. The first Eid congregation will be held at Sadra Madrasa ground at 9:30am.
Devotees of Hajiganj Sadra Darbar Sharif have been celebrating all the religious practices in line with Saudi Arabia for last 80 years. The first cleric of the Darbar late Peer Moulana Ishak (RM) started the ritual of celebrating the religious festivals in 1931.
