Bhola, Dec 14 (bdnews24.com) - At least 10 pirates, including gangster 'Zakir', and a fisherman were killed in a gunfight with police at Monpura upazila in Bhola on Wednesday.
Fisherman 'Billal' was killed in the crossfire with the gang of Zakir in the outlet of the Bay of Bengal near Bhasanchar around 2pm, police said.
A police official was also injured in the gunfight.
Char Nizam Police Camp sub-inspector 'Kamal' told bdnews24.com in the evening that two firearms and ammunition were recovered from the spot.
Ten pirates were arrested after the hour-long gunfight, he added.
Charfashion Police Station officer-in-charge Riaz Hossain, however, later said that no one was arrested.
"A police team conducted a drive in the bay to stop buccaneering. The team chased the pirates when they were preparing for robbery," the OC said.
He also confirmed the killing of Billal in the gunfight.
The other deceased could not be identified immediately.
