Gaibandha, July 26 (bdnews24.com) — A Gaibandha court has awarded each of the three accused 14 years' rigorous imprisonment on charges of throwing acid on a housewife at Palashbari Upazila in Gaibandha on May 25, 2005.
They were also fined Tk 50,000 each.
District and sessions judge A T M Golam Kibria passed the order on Tuesday.
The convicts – identified as Fhul Mia, his wife Sahera Begum and Bodi Mia of Gobindapur village of the Upazila – have been sent to jail after the verdict.
According to case details, Abdul Mazid and Phul Mia of Bara Gobindapur village had a business dispute. The accused hurled acid on Mazid's wife Monjuara over the dispute when she went to respond to the nature's call on the night of May 25, 2005.
Her throat and breast had received severe burn injuries in the incident.
The victim's husband filed a case against the three at the Palashbari Police Station.
