Mymensingh, June 21 (bdnews24.com)—A presiding officer has been jailed for breaching electoral codes in Mymensingh.
Hanif Mia, posted at the Kandulia Primary School centre under Kumargata Union, was sentenced to three days by magistrate Lokman Hossain on Tuesday.
Hanif, also the Muktagachha upazila project implementation officer, was arrested on Monday night, a day before the Union Parishad polls, from the residence of a chairman candidate's supporter where he was being entertained.
Muktagachha police chief Mir Raqibul Haq confirmed the arrest. A new presiding officer has been appointed at the centre, he said.
Elections are underway in 10 unions of the upazila.
