Brahmanbaria, Mar 28 (bdnews24.com) — Four Indian over dimensional cargoes (ODCs) are stranded in Brahmanbaria on their way to Palatana power project in Tripura due to lack of navigability.
Indian contractor ABC official Ali Haider told reporters that one of the pontoons set up on Kurulia Canal for the cargoes went down on Monday due to lack of navigability.
"The ODC on the pontoon is stranded, leaving three others behind on the link road," he said.
He added that the ODCs would resume their journey to Tripura via Akhaura land port when the pontoons would be pushed up by upstream after midnight.
Brahmanbaria Roads and Highways Department executive engineer Zahangir Alam told bdnews24.com that ODC transportation would not harm Bangladesh's roads as the roads from Ashuganj to Akhaura had been repaired and alternative bridges were built with pontoons beside every bridge on the way.
The four ODCs with 326 tonne goods started their journey from Ashuganj river port on Sunday midnight.
They are carrying a part of the goods that Indian ships released at Ashuganj river port in the past 20 days.
Bangladesh is for the first time giving India transhipment facility through its territory.
