Over 50 die in road accidents

Dhaka, Nov 18 (bdnew24.com) — Accidents across the country have claimed death of over 50 people and left scores injured in three days, a common scenario during the Eid vacations.
Of them, 17 died on Thursday. The incidents took place in Pabna, Kishoreganj, Bhola, Sherpur, Narail and Gazipur.
bdnews24.com Pabna correspondent reports that at least five people died in a road accident in Pabna when a passenger bus plunged into a ditch on Thursday.
The accident occurred at around 7am on Thursday on the Pabna-Chatmohar road, near Baoikhola under Atgharia Upazila.
The dead were identified as helper 'Mintu', 35, passengers Nirmala Niveru, 35, Aloka Begum, 40, Nargis Begum, 35, and her daughter Anita Rani, 14.
The police said another 30 people, mostly passengers of the bus, had also been injured in the accident. Three critically injured people were admitted to the Atgharia Health Complex.
The Kishoreganj correspondent reports that a collision between a bus and a pickup truck killed four and injured 15 in Katiyadi of Kishoreganj.
The police and eye witnesses said the two vehicles collided around 11.30 Thursday morning at Achmita on the Kishoreganj-Bhairab Highway. Jalal, a 14 year old JSC examinee, died on the spot.
Bus driver Shahabuddin, 20, died at the Bajitpur Vagalpur Medical College Hospital.
Another person died on Thursday noon at Pakundia.
In Bhola, a speeding bus killed two motorcycle riders at Daulatkhan Upazila on Thursday morning.
The Ananda Paribahan bus hit the motorcycle in Boxkhali area on the Bhola-Charfashion Road, around 10am.
The dead people are 'Shakil', 18, and 'Sohel', 17. They were both SSC candidates. They were heading towards Borhanuddin Upazila when the bus hit them from the opposite direction.
bdnews24.com Sherpur correspondent reports that a passenger bus plunged into a roadside ditch at Shribardi Upazila of Sherpur, killing two.
Police said 10 others were injured.
The deceased are Shah Ali, 35, son of Taleb Hossain of Nachol Mahuri village and Mim Akhter, 4, daughter of Anwar Hossain.
Shribardi Police chief Mostasinur Rahman told bdnews24.com the bodies would be sent to morgue for autopsy. An unnatural death case has been filed.
Meanwhile, an unknown woman was crushed under a bus in Narail Sadar Upazila.
The accident occurred around 1:30pm on Thursday in the Nakshi Madrassah Bazar area.
Narail Sadar Police Station sub-inspector Rakib Uddin told reporters a passenger bus heading towards Narail ran over and crushed the woman. She died on the spot.
"The bus could not be stopped," he said. The body was sent to Narail Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
Gazipur bdnews24.com correspondent reports that an unidentified youth of about 32 was killed by an unknown vehicle in front of Workers College at Kaliganj Upazila of Gazipur around 8am on Thursday.
Kaliganj Police Station officer-in-charge Abdul Awal said the youth was wearing jeans and a white checked shirt. The body has been sent to Gazipur Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
In Habiganj, pedestrian Ramiz Ali died when he was run over by an auto-rickshaw at Kalimnagar under Sadar Upazila on Thursday afternoon.
Driver of the vehicle was held, acting police superintendent Zillur Rahman told bdnews24.com.
