Pauakhali, May 21 (bdnews24.com) – The government will soon appoint consultants to conduct feasibility study for the planned seaport in Patuakhalii, shipping minister Shajahan Khan said Friday. This will be the third seaport in the country after Chittagong and Mongla
Addressing a meeting at Charipara under Kalapara upazila after visiting the proposed site for the seaport, he said shipyards and dockyards would also be built there.
State minister for water resources M Mahbubur Rahman and parliamentary whip Nur-E-Alam Chowdhury also spoke at the meeting, which was presided over by Lalua union parishad chairman Rejaul Karim Biswas.
A shipping ministry press release said the minister visited the site of the proposed seaport -- estuary of the Andharmanik and Ramna rivers near Kuakata sea beach -- on Friday noon.
Khan said country's development activities would be intensified through proper utilisation of the seaports.
