Notorious robber' arrested in Moulvibazaar

The police arrested Sajid of Moulvibazar, well known locally as a "notorious robber", and three of his assistants on Monday night.

Moulvibazar, May 4 (bdnews24.com) –The police arrested Sajid of Moulvibazar, well known locally as a "notorious robber", and three of his assistants on Monday night.
Md Abdullah, OC of Srimangal Police Station said that they had arrested them from Shatak village of Nabiganj upazila in Habiganj and Laharpur village of Srimangal upazila in a special operation.
The arrested men are Sajid Uddin, 50, of Vunbir village of Srimangal upazila, Asgar Ali, 35, Idris Ali, 20, and Rafique Uddin, 20, of Shatak village of Nabiganj upazila.
Alamgir Hossain, assistant police superintendent of Moulvibazar Sadar upazila, told bdnews24.com that Sajid was arrested from Laharpur village of Bhunbir union of Srimangal upazila at around 2am. Three of his assistants were arrested on the basis of his information.
The police officer said that Sajid and his assistants had robbed Bidhan Chandra Ashsrjs' house on February 11, 2010. He is alleged to have cut Bhidan, 55, and his son Amari Das, 30, with sharp weapons and also robbed different valuable things including gold ornaments.
Sajid has several cases lodged against him on charges of murder, robbery and stealing with Srimangal Police Station, Abdullah said.
On the same day, Rapid Action Battalion arrested Ruma Begum, 40, from Uttarsur village in Srimangal upazila in Moulvibazar on Tuesday for being in possession of 25 bottles of Indian Phensidyl.
Lt Commander Kawsar Ahmed, the captain of RAB-9 in Moulvibazar, said that Ruma - wife of Chana Mia of Bashudev village of Akhura upazila in Brammanbaria - had for many years been bringing Phensidyl in to different places of Srimangal upazila from Akhaura.
The preparation of filing a case was ongoing.
