Kurigram, May 12 (BDNEWS) – Grabbing the house, temple and asram of a minority family at Madhyakumurpara of Sadar upazila in Kurigram, an influential BNP leader hung a signboard of a college there defying an injunction order on the land.
Following the incident, the concerned thana was informed but no step has been taken so far. The family is on the run due to continuous threat of the grabber.
Locals said the owner widower Khudiram Barman died in 2004 leaving no heir to claim his property. As he had no near relatives naturally, he donated his 4.70 acres of his land to Gouranga Barman, grandson of his grandfather Bholanath Barman's brother' son.
Under this circumstance Ahsanul Islam Rintu, an influential BNP leader and son of former Bhogdanga Union chairman, tried to grab the land through fake document.
As Gouranga Barman filed a case, the court issued a stay order on the land. But Rintu defying the court order grabbed the land and also took away a huge amount of paddy from his field.
Rintu along with his band erected a house there overnight and hung a signboard of non-existent college 'Bhogdanga Mohila College' having the name of the proprietor Ahsanul Islam Rintu.
When contacted, Rintu said on Friday over mobile phone that he had bought the land from the real owner and the district judge withdrew its stay order on the land.
"On the request of the local people, I decided to donate the property to the Bhogdanga Mohila College," he said and as for the cutting paddy he said that he had planted the paddy seeds and that is why he had harvested them.
