Dhaka, Mar 14 (BDNEWS) – Four different accidents claimed nine persons including father of the cricketer Mushfiq Babu and injured 33 others in different parts of the country Tuesday.
BDNEWS Rajshahi correspondent reports: father of the national cricketer Mushfiqur Rahman Babu, advocate Taimur Rahman (68) was killed in a road mishap at Natore.
On his way to Jhenaidah from Rajshahi, when Taimur Rahman halted in Natore town and was crossing a road, a bus ran over him.
After being admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries at about 1 pm.
His body was brought to his residence at Upashahar in Rajshahi city Tuesday afternoon.
His family sources said that his body would be buried Tuesday night in Sapura stadium graveyard.
He has left behind his wife, three sons and two girls.
BDNEWS Gopalganj correspondent adds: another accident on Dhaka-Khulna highway at Ghonapara in Gopalganj claimed at least six persons and left 25 others injured early Tuesday.
Four of the deceased were identified as Professor Khokon Karmakar (32), Yunus Ali Sardar (42), Didhra Akhtar (9) and Dilip Haldar (42).
Witnesses and the injured said the accident occurred when the driver of a Morelganj-bound night-coach (Pabna-Ba-110004) of Parjatak Paribahan from Dhaka lost control over steering and fell into a roadside ditch.
Of the injured six were rushed to Gopalganj Sadar Adhunik Hospital in critical condition. All the deceased and injured hail from different villages of Morelganj upazila under Bagerhat district.
BDNEWS Faridpur correspondent writes: a person was killed and eight others were injured in another road mishap at Bakhunda on Faridpur-Barisal highway in Faridpur.
Sources said the accident occurred when a Madaripur-bound bus of Abhilash Paribahan from Faridpur collided head-on with a speeding truck leaving one person dead on the spot and eight others injured.
The identity of the dead could not be known immediately.
In Dhaka, a Chhatra Shibir leader was killed in another road accident Tuesday morning in front of General Post Office (GPO) at Paltan.
The deceased was identified as Amzad Hossain (25), president of Chhatra Sibir Paltan thana unit and a third year student of Social Science department in Jagannath University.
Police and the witnesses said the accident occurred when a bus of Manjil Paribahan collided head on with Amzad's motorcycle at 10.30 am.
Police seized the bus. A case was filed with Paltan thana in this connection.
