Dhaka, Aug 21 (BDNEWS) – The Indian High Commission Sunday contradicted the Bangladesh media reports that BSF was entirely responsible for the incident and that BSF personnel fired hundreds of rounds at Bangladeshi construction workers and the BDR.
A press release of the High Commission reiterated that BSF had always acted in a responsible manner to maintain peace and tranquility along the border and did not take any provocative action to disturb the situation.
The Indian High Commission in Dhaka issued the press release in the wake of two days border skirmishes on Friday and Saturday at Gilabari frontier in Chapainawabganj district when both BDR and BSF were locked in gun battle giving rise to a panicky situation along the border.
It said when BDR started dumping cement concrete blocks on August 18 for revetment work near the Gilabari camp, it was objected to by BSF and on the following day (Aug 19) the BSF again lodged protest with the BDR. But the press release said when the BDR troops fired, the BSF troops also retaliated.
On Saturday (Aug 20), the Indian High Commission press release said that BDR again started firing in the area of Muchia camp when anti-erosion work in India was continuing.
