Five get death sentence in four cases in Bagerhat, Pabna, Panchagarh and Feni

Five persons were sentenced to death and two others awarded life imprisonment in four separate cases in Bagerhat, Pabna, Feni and Panchagarh.

Dhaka, May 11 (BDNEWS) – Five persons were sentenced to death and two others awarded life imprisonment in four separate cases in Bagerhat, Pabna, Feni and Panchagarh.
Court sources said that the Judge of Bagerhat Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal M Qadir Newaz on Wednesday awarded death sentence to four accused and life imprisonment to one and 10 years of rigorous imprisonment to another in Thakurbari gang rape, robbery and murder case.
Besides the Judge also fined them Tk one lakh each. The Judge announced the verdict in presence of four accused on Wednesday morning.
Those awarded death sentence are Idris Sheikh (25), son of Abdul Jalil Sheikh of Komorpur village of Bagerhat Sadar Upazila, Shajahan alias Haidar alias Kutti (42), son of late Mofizuddin of Dhalnagar village of Kachua Upazila, Faruq alias Lutfar Jamaddar (30) son of late Mominuddin Jamaddar of Dakshin Tafalbari village of Sharankhola Upazila and Majnu Haoladar alias Manju alias Sentu of Kakchira village of Patharghata Upazila under Barguna district.
According to the case proceedings a gang of 20 to 25 armed miscreants stormed the house of Niranjan Bhattacharya of Komorpur village in Jatrapur Union under Bagerhat Sadar Upazila on the night of March 8, 2003.
They entered into the house, breaking the door and hacked Tapan Bhattacharya, brother of Niranjan, leaving him critically injured.
The miscreants gang raped three female members of the family including Tapan's wife and his mother-in-law and also sexually harassed another.
At one stage seriously injured Tapan died in front of the armed miscreants. Later they looted properties of the house including cash and gold ornaments.
Police seized sandal of Idris from the scene. Later they arrested Idris from a movie theatre in Rupsa Upazila in Khulna and Anis and Kalu from Chanmari Bazar area of Khulna city.
They confessed their involvement in the incident in a statement under section 164 before the court.
The Judge of Pabna District Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Wednesday awarded a youth life term imprisonment for rape as allegations against him were proven.
According to the case proceedings, Zia (24), son of Badiur Rahman of Raipur village under Sujanagar Upazila raped a young girl of the same village on the night of June 5, 1998 when she came out of the house to respond to the call of nature.
After the incident the family members of the victim lodged a case with the concerned thana in this regard.
The Judge announced the verdict after the completion of examination of eight witnesses.
In the sensational murder case of Parimal of Daganbhuiyan in Feni, one Jubo Dal activist has been sentenced to life imprisonment and a fine of Tk 20,000, in default to suffer one more year's imprisonment.
According to the details of the case, a gang of terrorists shot and bombed Awami League worker Parimal to death on December 22, 1996 at Gaser Chungarpul of Daganbhuiyan.
After the filing of a case, SI of Daganbhuiyan police station Samad submitted a charge sheet to the court accusing nine persons.
After a long hearing, District and Sessions Judge Shah-e-Alam passed the judgement on Jubo Dal activist Pintu, one of the accused persons and acquitted the other eight, as the charge against them was not proved.
Panchagarh District and Sessions Judge and Judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Rashidul Hasan Patwary Wednesday awarded one person death sentence and also fined him Tk 20 thousand for killing wife in Panchagarh.
According to the case proceedings Motaleb Hossain, son of late Matiar Rahman of Dimla Upazila under Nilphamari married Laily Begum (21), daughter of Abdul Karim of Dokropara of Panchagarh six years back.
Motaleb stayed at his father-in-law's residence after the marriage. Motaleb strangled his wife Laily on the night of August 14, 2000 while she was asleep. Later he dumped the body in a pond adjacent to Panchagarh Police Super Office and fled away.
The brother of the deceased Soleman Ali lodged a murder case under section- 11 (ka) of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act with Panchagarh thana accusing Motaleb.
