Sirajganj, March 29 (BDNEWS) – Fishermen in the rural areas of Sirajganj have been enjoying the traditional 'Baut' festival in rivers, canals, beels and ponds-ditches as water has started receding.
'Baut' means a tradition of catching fish with different fishing tools by many people together in a festive manner i.e. a fishing festival.
As people make much noises and movements, frightened fishes start moving to and fro. As a result everybody can collect more or less fishes.
Now-a-days the festival has lost its charm because of unusual reduction in the production of fishes.
Recently, a 'Baut' festival has been held at a beel near Subarnasara village of Belkuchi, a thana adjacent to Sirajganj sadar.
There people- from children to old- of 8 to 10 villages participated in the fishing festival.
It's a heartening scene to see happy people mud all over their bodies returning home after dividing among themselves all the gathered fishes keeping on the sand.
