BIWTA negligence makes reopening of Gabkhan channel uncertain

Jhalkathi, March 19 (BDNEWS) – Reopening of Gabkhan channel is still uncertain due to the negligence of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority.
No initiative has so far been taken to rescue MV Trisha even after nine days of accident and to eliminate risk of any untoward accident.
A dredger sent to widen the spot by excavating could not start work till now. The work of connecting pipe began Friday morning but the authorities could not say when the problem would be solved.
BIWTA authorities, however, gave ambiguous information at different times in this regard.
Sources said the steamer of Dhaka-Khulna route is now plying on the Dhaka-Jhalkathi route resulting in immense suffering to the people of the area.
BIWTA officials allegedly tried to hide the main reason behind the accident.
Authorities of both the steamers are now busy in attack and counter attack agaisnt each other.
Laskar Rabiul who went missing during the accident is yet to be traced.
