Poet Nurul Huda honoured at international peace meet in Kolkata

Bangladesh’s leading poet cum peace activist and editor of bdnews24.com’s literary page ‘Arts’, Mohammad Nurul Huda has been honoured with the ‘World Peace Felicitation’ in the valedictory session of ‘World Thinkers’ and Writers’ Peace Meet, 2015.’

Earlier in February 2015 he was conferred with Bangladesh’s highest civilian award, Ekushey Padak.

The peace meet was held from December 27 to 31 at Ramkrishna Mission Institute of Culture in Kolkata.

It was organised by the International Society for Intercultural Studies and Research (ISISAR), Kolkata, in collaboration with World Constitution and Parliament Association (WCPA), International Philosophers of Peace (IPPNO), USA, GB Memorial Institution (Kolkata) and Dr BR Ambedkar Institute of Education (Kolkata).

Many more well-known organisations from Asia, Africa and Europe also assisted in organising the meet.

The organising committee, in a press release, said others honoured with the ‘felicitation’ are Glen T Martin (USA), Patricia A Murphy (USA), Swami Suprananda, Swami Atmapriananda, Professor SARPV Chaturvedi, Chaya Rai, EP Menon, Rajesh Rastogi, Rabi Protap Singh and Dauji Gupta (India).

“They have been felicitated for making significant contributions to attaining peace in their region and beyond,” the release said.  

This year’s ISISAR Peace Award went to Secretary General of WCPA Euginia Almond. She is also associated with a number of peace committees around the world.

The five-day peace interaction was attended by nearly two hundred poets, writers, lawyers, philosophers, peace activists and researchers from Bangladesh, India, Iran, Israel, Japan, Nigeria, Thailand and the USA, according to the press release.

The programmes included seminars, poetry readings, discussions, peace education, essays, musical presentations, art competitions etc.

In the morning of Dec 31 2015, International Writer’s Day -- first proposed by Bangladesh Writers’ Club in 2002 -- was celebrated and a documentary on ‘Peace Procession of Poetry 2015’ was presented.

The Bangladesh delegation led by Huda included members from different generations and disciplines.

They were Sheikh Rabiul Haque, Syed Ahmad Ali Aziz, Farid Ahmad Dulal,  Golam Morshed Chandan, Adhora Jothy, Linda Amin, Paru Parvin, Nargish Ara and Md Rishad Huda.

Poet Nurul Huda was also elected a presidium member of the newly formed ‘International Peace Committee.’

Farid Ahmad Dulal was elected as a member of the Secretariat and Sheikh Rabiul Haque as Joint Coordinator of the International Committee along with Sudipto Chatterjee of India.

Chairman of ISISAR Santinath Chattopadhyaya moderated the peace meet.

Bangladesh is expected to host the next meet in December, 2016.
