Bangla literature festival held in New York

A Bangla literature festival has been held in New York City with the slogan ‘Literature is for life’.

‘Gangchil Sahitya Asor’ and ‘Probasi Foundation USA’ organised the North America Bangla Literature Festival-2014 at Jewish Center in Jackson Heights on Friday evening local time.

Saptahik Thikana board of editors Chairman MM Shaheen was the chief guest at the function.

The special guests were former MPs Monirul Islam and Anisuzzaman Khokon, writer Arvin Ghosh, BTV ex-director general AKM Salamatullah, Dhaka University teacher Giasuddin and poet Tomij Uddin Lodi.

Writers Prateep Dasgupta, Harun Chowdhury, Swapan Basu and Prodip Malakar and journalists Shakhawat Hossain Selim, Ratan Talukder and Manjur Ahmed spoke at a discussion titled ‘Bangla literature at home and abroad’ during the festival.

Ten persons and organisations were awarded at the event for their contribution to different fields.
